Raku Taster – 13th September 2026
A fabulous class today with one group consisting of 3 generations. Everyone arrived well on time, and we started with a nice cuppa before learning about the history of ceramics…
Today’s class was definitely a lesson in keeping things simple. With Raku one does not have to go crazy with lots of colours and a simple white crackle pot can look fabulous. At RakuMania we use a specific clay body that fires white, so with our own formulated transparent glaze we can get some wonderful effects, especially playing with tape to then expose the clay body for the reduction chamber. On this course we had last year’s winner of the Christmas raffle who was accompanied by his mum. He made good use of the yellow and orange glaze together with some taping to create his favourite sporting numbers.
