Raku Taster – 13th September 2026

A fabulous class today with one group consisting of 3 generations. Everyone arrived well on time, and we started with a nice cuppa before learning about the history of ceramics and Raku. It’s amazing how many of our student have only heard of Raku from the Pottery Throwdown and have not idea it’s a Japanese family dynasty producing pottery for the last 450 years.

After all the students were shown the variety of styles they could try, there was an overwhelming attraction towards naked raku and the horse hair / feather technique. The naked raku performed fantastically, and we got some amazing pots with great crackle. The pots once sealed, waxed, and polished looked even better.  The advantage of having well burnished pots to start with is the wonderful shiny finish at the ends.

Everyone went home with some fabulous pots and were all very happy.
