A great day for Raku firing as our students arrived just before 10am ready to get cracking on a fabulous day. All armed with a cuppa tea, we went through the safety briefly and Adrian gave a little talk about the history of Raku and how our westernised form of Raku has developed. Karen showed a number of Raku pots previously fired in the studio to show the students ideas of what they could do today. All armed with 2 pots and some bought a third, they set ahead with glazing and decorating their pots before lunch.
Most of the students chose a horsehair / feather pot to do and it was going to be a day of naked Raku as they all liked that style. After lunch, the kilns were fired up and we managed to get 4 firings in. The stars for today were the naked Raku pots which really came out stunning. After a quick demo from Karen and Adrian, the students who chose the horsehair / feather method, all got the chance to put on the sugar, horsehair and feathers themselves.
A lovely bunch of ladies and some fabulous pots with one of the students already booking again to bring her other half in October.
