Day 2 of the Create & Fire workshop. The students’ creations had all been bisque fired and ready to be glazed and Raku fired. Due to the fact that each student has about 5 to 7 pots, this workshop is capped at 3 people. Everyone was on time and ready to go. Karen and Adrian gave a brief talk about the Raku firing process and showed examples of what they could do to decorate their creations. It was decided to try the naked raku & horse hair process on the smoother items, and these tended to be the slip cast ones (Owls and bud vases).
We had one firing before lunch and 3 after in order to get all the creations fired. The transparent glaze we use on the white pots gave some fabulous crackle and the copper from Starry Night did not disappoint. The horse hair / feather technique worked well and we got some lovely “ghosting” on one of the bud vases.
All in all, a wonderful day with great creations.
